The County of Calaveras Office of the District Attorney is seeking a District Attorney Services Technician I/II/III to join their team. The incumbent will, under direction of a supervisor or management, perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of the District Attorney’s Office; which may include record keeping, specialized discovery, civil, financial, or evidence processing related to the department, typing, word processing, and filing; and to perform related work as required.




District Attorney Services Technician I

This is the entry level class for District Attorney Services Technician series.  Incumbent will be required to decipher technical data and laws pertaining to the security, release, and maintenance of District Attorney’s records.  Incumbent will processes reports of a confidential nature in strict adherence to State law and Department mandates.  Incumbent is expected to keep current on continuous changes and additions in report processing requirements.  Incumbent will be relied upon to help assure Department and State policies are followed, will be responsible for releasing information of a sensitive nature to the public and will operate a Department Records Management System involving input and/or retrieval of information in numerous in-house files.  This class series requires developing skills in handling citizen complaints in person and over the telephone. 

District Attorney Services Technician II

This is the journey level position within the series.  In addition to the above, incumbents will be assigned to more increasingly difficult tasks within the department. 

District Attorney Services Technician III

This is the advanced level position within the series.  In addition to the above, responsibilities require the frequent use of initiative and independent judgment in scheduling and coordination of office activities and in dealing with sensitive assignments.  Incumbents are responsible for the more complex assignments and work with greater independence from close review.  Incumbents may assist in training and guiding subordinates. 


  • Performs record checks for authorized parties in strict accordance with the law;
  • Operates a telecommunication terminal accessing County, State, and National law enforcement automated information systems;
  • Fiscal accounting and departmental payroll;
  • Performs sealing of records and records destruction in accordance with laws and other mandates;
  • Operates a word processor to type complaints for deputies/investigators for submission to the Court;
  • Trains or assists in training of personnel;
  • Processing and maintenance of discovery, evidence, subpoenas, and criminal/civil records;
  • Transcribes, types, files and provides other clerical support duties;
  • Performs various other miscellaneous duties, such as processing mail, processing citations, maintaining supplies, etc.


Knowledge of:

District Attorney Services Technician I/II/III

Operations, procedures, specific rules and precedents of the department together with the ability to work independently per established procedures; modern office methods and practices including common software applications; business English, including vocabulary, correct grammatical usage and punctuation; modem filing methods; common office machines and their operation, including use of personal computers.


Skill to:

District Attorney Services Technician I/II/III

Assist in the developing and implementing of goals, objectives, work sites, policies, procedures, and work standards; prepare, maintain, and review documents, records and reports; exercise sound judgment with general policy guidelines; assist in analyzing office operations and technical problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend solutions; interpret and apply legislative and administrative laws, codes and regulations as directed; skill in typing accurately at a net rate of 60 words per minute; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Education, Training and Experience:

District Attorney Services Technician I

Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work in administration or technical subjects related to the area in which assigned and two (2) years of responsible office administrative support experience.


District Attorney Services Technician II

Three years of experience in a position comparable to a District Attorney Services Technician.  In addition, candidates must demonstrate competency in technical work.  A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field can substitute for up to two (2) years of position specific experience.


District Attorney Services Technician III

Five years of experience in a position comparable to a District Attorney Services Technician.  In addition candidates must demonstrate proficiency in law enforcement and court procedures and processes. A Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field can substitute for up to two (2) years of position specific experience.


Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations:

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
